Ska City

Hailing from both England and the United States, this high-energy nine-piece ska band brings the infectious rhythms of over six decades of ska music to life, blending the best of rocksteady, dancehall, two-tone, third-wave ska, and punk.

Based in Asheville, North Carolina, the band infuses each performance with a passion and authenticity that honors the genre’s rich history while keeping the dancefloor moving with fresh, dynamic sounds. From the laid-back grooves of rocksteady to the sharp, punchy energy of 3rd wave ska, Ska City offers something for all ska lovers, spreading their love for ska across the southeastern United States.

With their infectious energy, tight instrumentation, killer horn section, and love for the genre, this band is a must-see for anyone who loves the ever-evolving world of ska music.

Dinner begins at 6:00 PM - Enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner served picnic-style featuring:

  • BBQ boneless chicken thighs

  • Pulled pork BBQ

  • Vegan BBQ portabella mushrooms

  • Country style green beans (with and without bacon)

  • Coleslaw (both kinds!)

  • Buns and bread

Dinner will be served picnic style with a suggested donation of $15 for adult plates and $5 for kid plates - feel free to round up for a good cause! All proceeds from food sales benefit the Swannanoa Community Council which owns and operates Grovemont Park, Fox Creek Park, and the Swannanoa Library building and the Friends of the Swannanoa Library.

Every dollar raised through food sales and additional donations directly supports three beloved community resources: Grovemont Park, Fox Creek Park, and the Swannanoa Library. These community treasures depend on local support to continue providing places to gather, play, learn, and connect. By enjoying dinner or making an additional donation, you're helping keep these spaces vibrant for everyone.

Weather: Be sure to bring an umbrella. If rain is in the forecast as the show will go on! In the event of severe weather, we will post real-time updates regarding any delays or cancellations on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Parking & Shuttle: Parking at Grovemont Park is limited, so please walk or carpool if possible. Look out for parking signs and consult with our parking volunteers for more info on where to park. Special thanks to our parking partners (please park at these locations!):

FREE Shuttle Service: Courtesy of the American Legion, a free shuttle will run from the Swannanoa Church of God beginning at 5:30 PM and continuing every few minutes throughout the evening. Please park responsibly & respect our neighbors.

Kellin Watson & the Feelgood brings together a powerhouse group of seasoned Western North Carolina musicians led by Asheville singer-songwriter Kellin Watson, whose soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting have captivated audiences for more than two decades. Blending elements of soul, folk, blues, Americana, and roots rock, Kellin’s music is both deeply personal and warmly inviting — equally at home in an intimate listening room or on a festival stage. Her songs have appeared on national television, earned songwriting recognition, and carried her to performances across the United States and Canada. 

For this special Groovin’ on Grovemont performance, Kellin is joined by an all-star lineup featuring Tom Leiner on guitar, Rob Geisler on bass, George Scott on keys, and Vic Stafford on drums. Together, Kellin Watson & the Feelgood deliver a rich, groove-driven sound filled with soulful vocals, dynamic musicianship, and the kind of genuine musical chemistry that keeps audiences smiling long after the final song.

WHAT IS GROOVIN’ ON GROVEMONT?

Groovin’ is a free-admission outdoor concert series benefiting two Swannanoa nonprofit organizations: The Friends of the Swannanoa Library and the Swannanoa Community Council.

These events are held at Grovemont Park, adjacent to the Swannanoa Library. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and come enjoy these free family-friendly evenings of great music and food! A large selection of tasty and freshly prepared foods will be available for concert goers to enjoy. This year’s concerts will feature specially-curated Groovin’ culinary creations in partnership and in support of selected Swannanoa Valley restaurants.

All proceeds go to the Swannanoa Community Council and Friends of The Swannanoa Library for the benefit of all those who use and enjoy Grovemont Park & Playground and the Swannanoa Library.
